REACH

Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of Chemicals

REACH

REACH is a European Union regulation concerning the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of Chemicals. It came into force on 1st June 2007 and replaces a number of European Directives and Regulations with a single system.

The regulation requires registration of chemicals to ensure adequate information is developed on the toxicological and ecotoxicological effects of the chemicals. Many substances on the old EINECS Register have knowledge gaps in this respect. To develop better controls, all chemicals on the European market must be registered with the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA).

The registration deadline requirements are in tonnage related bands as follows:
Registration for chemicals >1000 tpa (sold in the EU) ended in December 2010. This also included chemicals sold in smaller volumes (> 1 tpa) if they display carcinogenic, mutagenic, reprotoxic and > 100 tpa if the exhibit ecotoxic or ecopersistence properties.
Registration for all chemicals >100 tpa (sold in the EU) ended in May 2013.
Registration for all chemicals > 1 tpa (sold in the EU) ends in May 2018.

All chemicals were pre-registered by January 2009 to determine what gaps in the technical portfolio need to be filled. All users of chemicals along the supply chain must ensure the chemicals they use are on the pre-registration list, have been registered or that other arrangements are in place to ensure registration will occur by the due date. This is particularly important if you import chemicals from a non-EU supplier.

MacDermid Autotype have had a REACH team carefully working on our chemical inventory since 2005 to ensure proper communication with our suppliers to facilitate the registration process. It is important that the way in which the chemical is used by us and our customers is communicated back to the EU manufacturer/importer who alone is responsible for the registration process.

If you are aware of any unusual applications for our products not covered by the intended application on our Product Data or Safety Data Sheet you must notify us immediately.

At this time MacDermid Autotype are satisfied that arrangements are in hand for all chemicals used by us in the manufacture of our products to be properly registered within the time frames for compliance with the REACH requirements.

In addition, MacDermid Autotype do not use any of the substances on the current Candidate List of Substances of Very High Concern for authorisation or Authorisation list in the manufacture of our products and our products do not knowingly contain any of these substances.
