Our Autoflex Optical films can be used in a number of applications in electronic information displays, where high-perfomance and low reflection / high transmission features are required. Traditionally the only way to get an AR film is to produce a multi-layer sputtered stack. Such films can give excellent performance, but their limitations are well-known in the industry.
Autotype has worked with the prestigious Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems in Freiburg, Germany to develop an alternative AR film produced via PNR. These Moth-eye AR films contain a 200nm structure similar to that covering the eyes of certain moths. The moths use this AR structure as a ‘stealth device’; without it their large eyes would make very easy targets for night-time predators.
The optical properties of the moth-eye AR films are impressive: <1% reflectivity over the entire visible spectrum combined with low dependency on angle of view.
The physical properties are equally impressive. The Autotype PNR system produces the structures as UV-cured hard-coats. So toughness and abrasion resistance are built in to the system.

Anti-glare hardcoat fillms Sometimes it's not enough to have AR. The human eye is very sensitive to specular reflection, so antiglare (AG) is also required. The Fraunhofer team have developed the optical technology to create 2-in-1 moth-eye AR/AG strucutres. In a single production pass we create Moth-eye AntiReflection AntiGlare hardcoat films and we can alter the ratio of AR and AG to meet your specific requirements.
